What this trip is

Half-day guided fishing trips with Dialed Outdoor are private, wade-based, and built around what's running. We pick you up, drive to the right water for the day, and put you in it. You'll fish for sea-run Dolly Varden, cutthroat trout, starry flounder, and whichever salmon are in season — kings and sockeye in early summer, pinks and chums through July, silvers in late summer. Every trip is for one to four anglers only, never a mixed group.

Fly fishing is our specialty — Dominick has tied flies since he was seven, and every fly we use is his own. But spinning rods are available if you'd rather, and many trips end up running a mix. Beginners are welcome on either rod. Just tell us at booking which way you'd like to lean and we'll set the day up around it.

Where We Fish

What’s Included

Everything you need to fish

We provide all the gear so you can show up and fish:

  • Fly rods, reels, lines, leaders, and hand-tied flies for fly fishing

  • Spinning rods, reels, and lures for conventional gear

  • Hip boots

  • Tackle and terminal gear

  • Round-trip transportation from your pickup point

  • Local guidance from Dominick on every cast

What to Bring

Plan for everything:

Juneau weather is what it is. We recommend you bring:

  • Rain gear (jacket and pants — Juneau gets serious rain)

  • Warm layers — fleece or wool, not cotton

  • Sturdy pants you can move in (under hip boots)

  • Snacks, water, and any medications you need for the day

  • Polarized sunglasses if you have them

  • Your Alaska sport fishing license — purchase online here

Who this trip is for

Half day trips are best for:

  • A cruise passenger with a typical port window — this trip fits and gets you back to the ship with margin

  • Local to Juneau and want a few hours on the water without committing the full day

  • New to fishing entirely — we can start you on spinning gear and try fly later if you want

A mixed group where some want to fly fish and some prefer spin — totally doable

  • Visiting Juneau with non-fishing companions and need to keep the day balanced

If you've got a full day to fish or you're chasing a specific species hard, look at the Full-Day Trip → instead.

Frequently Asked

  • Most Juneau fishing trips put you on a six-person boat hunting halibut and salmon offshore. Ours doesn't. We wade fish — streams, beaches, estuaries. It's quieter, more intimate, and a different style of fishing entirely. If you want offshore halibut, we're not the right call. If you want to learn the water, cast a fly rod, and fish like a local, we are.

  • Depending on the species and the water, yes. Some waters around Juneau are catch-and-release only; others allow harvest within ADFG regulations. When booking, let us know whether you’re interested in catch-and-release or keeping the fish you catch, and we’ll plan the trip accordingly. As always, it depends on whether the fish are biting - we’ll do everything we can can, but we can’t guarantee that you’ll catch fish.

  • Absolutely. If you prefer your own rod or have a cool tool, bring it.

  • Whatever you're more comfortable with. Dominick's specialty is fly fishing, so if you want to learn or improve, you'll get expert instruction. If you've never fly fished and don't want to spend your half-day learning, a spinning rod gets you catching fish faster. Many trips end up using both. Just tell us at booking which way you'd like to start.
